In a large saucepan, combine the cranberry juice, apple cider, freshly squeezed orange juice, lemon juice, and your choice of honey or maple syrup. Set the pot over medium heat and stir until well combined.
Introduce the cinnamon stick, whole cloves, and star anise pods to the mixture. Stir thoroughly to ensure the spices are evenly distributed.
Heat the punch until it reaches a gentle simmer, then reduce the heat to low. Allow the mixture to steep for approximately 15-20 minutes so that the spices can infuse their flavors into the punch.
Once steeped, remove the saucepan from heat. Use a fine mesh strainer to carefully strain out the whole spices, discarding them.
If you wish to include sparkling water for a bubbly effect, let the punch cool down slightly before gently stirring in the sparkling water. This will help preserve the fizz.
Taste the punch and adjust the sweetness by adding more honey or maple syrup if desired.
For serving, pour the punch into festive mugs or glasses. Garnish each serving with a slice of orange and a few fresh cranberries to enhance the holiday spirit.
Notes
Adjust sweetness to taste and serve warm or chilled.
