Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9-inch round baking pan.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, salt, baking powder, and baking soda.
Add the softened butter to the dry ingredients and mix until it resembles coarse crumbs. Pour in the buttermilk and mix until a soft dough forms.
Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and gently knead for about 1 minute until smooth.
Roll the dough into a rectangle measuring approximately 12x8 inches and about 1/4 inch thick.
In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and freshly grated nutmeg. Sprinkle this mixture over the rolled-out dough.
Distribute the chopped apples evenly over the sugar and spice mixture.
Starting from the longer edge, roll the dough into a tight log and slice it into 1-inch thick pieces.
Arrange the rolls upright in the prepared baking pan and let them rise for about 30 minutes.
Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown on top.
While the rolls are baking, whisk together the powdered sugar and milk until smooth.
Allow the rolls to cool for about 10 minutes before drizzling the glaze over the tops.
Notes
For an appealing presentation, serve warm on a rustic wooden board with a sprinkle of cinnamon.
